Wilfried Zaha, Palace’s star attacker handed in his transfer request this April after five years at the club. He had a meeting with the club’s chairman Steve Parish to discuss about his career.
Now that the transfer window has been closed, we are all wondering why the move didn’t take place. According to Roy Hodgson, Crystal Palace boss, the reason they will keep Zaha is that there were no offers for their super talented forward.
Palace wanted a whopping £90 million for the player which both Arsenal and Everton couldn’t afford. Zaha’s dream was to transfer to Arsenal but following his price tag his move to Gunners was thwarted.
Hodgson explained that Zaha’s case was not as easy as Wan Bissaka’s transfer to Manchester United. Although the club wanted to honor their player’s request, the club was only ready to hand him over to a bigger club that offered good money. However, Hodgson acknowledged that getting those two qualities in a transfer negotiation was not easy to come by.
Zaha will continue to stay at Selhurst Park as his move did not push through. The manager has praised him for his positive attitude and maturity about the disappointment. In line with Hodgson’s praises, Zaha has played in all the Premier League games this season. He scored twice in all the 13 matches he played.
For now, the player should focus on their coming matches against Spurs, Wolves and Norwich City because maybe his lack will come in the next transfer window. Arsenal should definitely rise up to the task and have this Ivorian winger at their Emirates Stadium before another club does.
