Team U.S. Narrowly Escape a Loss In the Overtime And Wins 93-92 Over Turkey

Teams U.S. almost lost to Turkey on Tuesday. They narrowly avoided the decline in the extra time to win 93-92. This has now proved beyond doubts that team U.S. is very vulnerable at the FIBA World Cup.

If they had lost the game to Turkey, it would be their first loss at a significant tournament since 2006. And would have ended their 44 games winning streak at Olympics and World Championships. Their last loss was in 2006 to Greece in the World semifinals.

Turkey lost four free throws in the last nine seconds of overtime. Kris Middleton also made two free throws with only two seconds left, Ersan Ilyasova missed a contested three-pointer as time was almost ending.

Philadelphia 76ers swingman Furkan Korkmaz who was in Turkish roster, said that the game was on their hands. In 2010, Turkey won the silver medal and had a No.17 overall ranking.

Much of U.S. NBA superstars is lacking in the U.S. roster. The leading figures in U.S. roster include: Harrison Barnes, Kemba Walker, and Middleton. Barnes played in Tokyo Olympics while Kemba and Middleton are 2019 NBA All-Stars.

In the pre-game exhibition, the U.S. lost to Australia, the first pre-World Cup loss. Then beat Czechs 88-67 in the opener on Sunday. The U.S. will then finish the group play on Thursday against Japan.
