Casino Operator Sky City Entertainment Group has shut down its integrated resort Sky City Auckland. The decision came after the New Zealand government confirmed new cases of community transmission of COVID19.
New Zealand recently celebrated 100 days without community transmission and right after that, the confirmed cases were revealed. This has come as a huge shock to the country. The government has immediately placed Auckland, the largest city in the country, to Stage 3 restrictions for three days as a precautionary measure. The rest of New Zealand is in Stage 2 restriction.
Under the Stage 3 restrictions, the bars and many other businesses would be prohibited. The gatherings are now restricted to 10 people and travel in and out of Auckland is mostly restricted.
However, the casinos of Sky City in Hamilton and Queenstown would remain open as of now with the social distancing measures.
Graeme Stephens, CEO of Sky City Entertainment said that they are fully complying with the update of the New Zealand Government. He further added that they are prepared to respond quickly to the situation. Assuring everyone he confirmed that the group is in a strong financial position to withstand financial restrictions imposed.
