Nintendo Direct Announces Super Nintendo Games Will Come To Switch On September 5

Good news for subscribers to the Nintendo Switch’s online service. From September 5, they can play 20 Super Nintendo games on the system.

During its September 2019 Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo announced Super Nintendo Entertainment – Nintendo Switch Online library, naming the first 20 SNES games which will be offered on the system. If you are already a subscriber for Switch’s online service, the titles will be free. Included in the first batch of titles are Yoshi’s Island, Mario Kart, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Breath of Fire. Stunt Race FX will also be available on the service, the first time the game being offered on a system other than SNES.

During the presentation, Nintendo said that SNES NSO games will support local and online multiplayer, so you can play with friends in classic titles. It’ll also incorporate the Rewind feature from the SNES Classic, that allows you to go back a few seconds in games if you find yourself in trouble.

In addition to the games, Nintendo also said an SNES controller will be available for the Switch for $30. This special offer is exclusive for NSO subscribers and can be charged using the same cable as the Switch Pro controller. Nintendo didn’t give a release date but said more info on the controller will be provided on its website soon.
